This post is part of the SkyRoster Training Videos Series.

Welcome to a new SkyRoster training video! Today we’ll learn how to configure some of the built-in application parameters, namely the time settings, week setting and public holidays! Let’s get started!

Time Settings

In Time settings, the System Administrator can set the server time zone, at the initial setup of your application. Every request is made in reference to this time zone, so make sure you set it up correctly. Also, we need to define how many hours a working day has. Generally, this value is set to 8 hours per working day. All leave and duty requests’ durations are calculated based on this parameter. Great! Now, let’s dive into the week settings!

Week Settings

Here, we need to configure the first day of the week and the working days. If your Organization schedules shifts on weekends, then we need to set Saturday and Sunday as working days, as well.

The days which are left unchecked will not be counted as working days in leave requests. Therefore, an employee who makes a leave request from Thursday to Monday will use only 3 days from his annual leave days.

Public Holidays

And finally, the last stop for today — setting up Public Holidays! SkyRoster is using a Public Holidays API which offers up-to-date information for every country in the world.

Adding a new country is as simple as selecting it from a list.

Depending on your Organizational standards, you can check the “Observed” checkbox to enable the Observed Public Holidays behaviour. In some countries, An Observed Holiday is when a public holiday is celebrated on a date that is not the actual event’s anniversary date. For example, if Christmas falls on a Saturday, it is “observed” on Friday before as a holiday and is usually a day off work.

Public Holidays for one or more countries can be added to your Organisation at the same time, to accommodate staff with foreign nationalities. However, only the default country’s holidays are considered in the calendar.

To set the Default country, you need to click the green button corresponding to the selected country.

You can also customize the list of Public Holidays for any selected country. You can add new holidays or remove holidays from the existing list.

If your organization does not deduct public holidays from annual leaves, then we need to mark this checkbox, as well.

That’s all for today! Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube channel to get a notification when the next training video comes out! See you soon!
